# Parts and Material Details

Details of the hardware needed to purchase.

{% hint style="info" %}
I specifically made the designs modular so that I and others can experiment with different designs and customizations.

I have no affiliation with Amazon nor do I receive any compensation from any vendor (not that I am against that).
{% endhint %}

## Tuning Mechanisms

{% hint style="info" %}
I have used both chrome plated and gold-plated tuners. More expensive tuners are available. If you use a different tuner, you might need to drill pilot holes or modify the head design to accommodate different dimensions.
{% endhint %}

### Gold-Plated (Wave MOD1-1-2 design)

The current Wave (tenor-sized) head design fits the BQLZR grommets and has pilot holes is designed for the BQLZR Gold-Plated 2R2L Tuning Peg Machine Head Tuners For Ukulele 4 String Guitar available from Amazon (US) for around $10. This model has a different hole pattern than the chrome tuners below.

This model has the same grommet and screws sizes as the chrome version.

### Chrome Design

The 2020 Christmas Concert-sized Ukulele head design is matched to the BQLZR Chrome Tuning Pegs Machine Heads 2R2L For Ukulele available from Amazon (US) for \~$10.

## Mounting Screws

{% hint style="info" %}
The modular bolt-on design will help with repair and incremental improvements
{% endhint %}

### Fretboard and Nut Small Screws M3 x 6 mm (and maybe also 8 mm)

Use to attach the fretboard and nut to the neck. I like the iFlight M3 Titanium Hex Allen Socket Button Head Screws because they are titanium. Feel free to substitute other materials.

I often use the 8 mm screws for attaching the nut and the 6 mm screws for attaching the fretboard.

### Neck to Body Large Screw (M5 x 50 mm)

![Wave ukulele neck to body joint and screw location](https://966603259-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-MSV3Je-C2kTZTVekW9s%2F-MSXZc6MD21GCPzD1OCS%2F-MSXkO9eFDxJUmGX6ORS%2Fimage.png?alt=media\&token=7f456189-ab71-48fb-a3a1-644ec0b57c0d)

Both the 2020 Christmas design and the Wave design use a dovetail joint to hold the neck in place. The screw provides extra holding since the ukulele is basically made of plastic and prevents vertical movement.

I used something like the uxcell M5 x 50mm Full Thread Button Head Socket Cap. Feel free to substitute other M5 screws as long as they can fit into the screw opening (green arrow in picture).

### Neck Stiffener - Carbon Fiber Bars 2mm x 10mm 1000mm

I found that the necks were not stiff enough on their own. Using carbon fiber bars provides good stiffness with very little additional weight. Example: [2mm x 10mm 1000mm - PULTRUDED-Flat Carbon Fiber Bar](https://www.amazon.com/2mm-10mm-1000mm-PULTRUDED-Flat-Controlled/dp/B07KXJ2P96/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1\&keywords=Carbon+Kevlar+Supply\&qid=1612378391\&rnid=2941120011\&s=industrial\&sr=1-10). Superglue the bars into the neck after gluing the neck pieces together.

{% hint style="info" %}
Take appropriate precaution to protect yourself from the carbon fiber dust when cutting the bars to fit
{% endhint %}
